Linda Nguyen, CEO of WorkForce Central, will continue to lend her expertise to the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) Workforce Development Council (WDC).

Nguyen, representing the Pierce County Workforce Development Council, was elected on Thursday to another one-year term on the USCM WDC’s Board of Trustees during the USCM’s annual winter meeting in Washington, D.C. She has served on the board each year since taking over as CEO of WorkForce Central in 2007.

“Challenges such as the skilled-worker shortage and essential-skills gap aren’t unique to Pierce County,” Nguyen said. “These are national issues, and national collaboration is required to address them – which is why I’m grateful to the U.S. Conference of Mayors for allowing me to continue working in this capacity alongside some of our nation’s most innovative WDC leaders.”

The USCM WDC – comprised of 15 elected trustees and several other local WDC leaders selected by the council’s officers – helps address national workforce development issues through the formation of three committees, focusing on Policy and Advocacy, Membership and Best Practices.

The purpose of the Policy and Advocacy Committee is to inform congressional leaders at the federal level of workforce issues and encourage them to implement the USCM WDC’s policy recommendations. The Membership Committee works to ensure the USCM WDC maintains a membership base that is geographically and legislatively diverse, and actively engages in implementing the council’s strategic plan. The Best Practices Committee works to ensure local WDCs across the country have access to workforce development and organizational best practices.

Nguyen was also appointed recently to a two-year term as Chair of the Washington Workforce Association (WWA).

WorkForce Central strengthens the Pierce County economy by identifying skill gaps between jobseekers and employment opportunities, fostering data-driven decision making, and connecting workforce development partners into a cohesive, collaborative and effective network.
