Pierce County Councilmember Douglas Richardson was elected to office in 2012. Prior to joining the County Council, he served on the Lakewood City Council for 17 years where he spearheaded the creation of the South Sound Military & Communities Partnership to address military growth and coordination issues in partnership with Joint Base Lewis-McChord and surrounding jurisdictions.
Councilmember Richardson was raised in West Groton, Massachusetts, and came to the Lakewood area while serving on active duty with the 2nd Ranger Battalion on Fort Lewis. He is a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, and was awarded a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. Councilmember Richardson retired from the Army Reserve as a brigadier general after completing 32 years of active and reserve service and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal.
In his spare time, he and his wife Charlene enjoy spending time with their two grown children and two grandchildren.
