What We Do

WorkForce Central carries out the vision of the Chief Local Elected Officials and the Pierce County Workforce Development Council by coordinating, administering and advancing the work of the workforce development system, known as WorkSource Pierce.

How We Do It

We champion a comprehensive approach to workforce development as a vital component to a strong economy. We catalyze system-wide collaboration and work in conjunction with our partners to actively pursue investments in workforce development. Watch the video below to learn more.

What is workforce development?

Employers need to hire the right workers, and workers need to build the right skillsets to get hired. Workforce development happens when businesses, community leaders and other groups take specific actions to connect the dots between job seekers, training programs, and employers.

Executive Board

Elected officials from the City of Tacoma and Pierce County work together to craft targeted solutions to workforce challenges in our region. This governing board works in conjunction with the WDC by appointing members, approving budgets, and adopting policies to guide its work.

Workforce Development Council

The WDC strengthens the Pierce County economy by identifying skill gaps between jobseekers and employment opportunities, fostering data-driven decision making, and connecting workforce development partners into a cohesive, collaborative and effective network.

Its members represent the many facets of our local economy: business, government, education, labor, community-based organizations and nonprofits.
