Military families are a vital piece of the regional economy, and nowhere is that more apparent than in Pierce County. When combined with Thurston County, our region ranks third in the nation, and top on the west coast, for having the largest population of veterans.
WorkForce Central and its partners are committed to veterans, transitioning service members, National Guard and military families. We invest in training and job search opportunities while partnering with the community on innovative initiatives to transition military personnel into jobs. Check out some of our programs below.
WorkForce Central hosts the two-day Veteran Transitioning Workshop to help transitioning service members identify core values, competencies, needs and desires that ultimately drive their post-military career path. The workshop uses Lean Six Sigma principals to translate military experience, lifelong interests and personal goals into satisfying career opportunities. WorkForce Central partners with the Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council to support Camo2Commerce, a career development program that provides customized services for transitioning service members. Through C2C, members transitioning out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord can access one-on-one career coaching, job placement and short-term training. C2C also hosts hiring fairs and other opportunities to set service members up for success.
Careeronestop operates a web portal specifically targets toward veterans and and transitioning service members to translate military skills into civilian employment. Offering services around education, job searching and benefits assistance, veterans and military military personnel can access information to help at any point in their pursuit of a new career.
