Emma R.

As a military spouse, Emma had struggled to find her groove here in Pierce County. She has a disability making it even more difficult for her to get access to employment and training programs. Emma also wanted to begin a career in Washington that is flexible to her needs as a military spouse and can move around the country.

Through the WorkSource Pierce network of providers, Emma was connected with program services for free mental health counseling and support, which helped reduce her anxiety about returning to school and work. She also received tuition assistance to attend dental assisting school and was connected to paid Work Experience opportunities. She was hired as a Dental Sterilization Assistant, getting paid as she learns on the job!

Emma will complete dental assisting school this spring and begin working as a dental assistant at a local dentist’s office. In the fall, Emma plans to go back to school to become specialized in oral surgery!
