Collaboration for a Cause Bringing Resource Event to South Hill April 2

South Hill, WA – The Pierce County Community Engagement Task Force in partnership with Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region and the Puyallup-Sumner Chamber of Commerce is bringing its Collaboration for a Cause event to South Hill Saturday, April 2.

The seventh event since its inception in 2020, Collaboration for a Cause will feature 40 vendors bringing various services to the community. Services will aid in homelessness, healthcare, food, clothing, employment, gas cards and much more. Employers including Safeway, Fred Meyer and various unions will be present with over 300 job opportunities throughout Pierce County.

The event will be held in the Sears parking lot at the South Hill Mall from 12-4 p.m. Attendees do not need to preregister for this free event. A universal intake form will be provided at arrival and then participants will be given a “passport” and can roam the resource event to see what services could benefit them.

“The event is tailored to meet the needs of the community,” said Kelly Blucher, Community Engagement and Outreach Manager for Goodwill. “We’re trying to not only meet basic needs, but pathways.”

The theme of this event is connectivity. There will be providers with access to low-cost devices for eligible participants such as $11 Chromebooks and other electronics. Training and other digital literacy offerings will also be available.

The event is unique in that it utilizes a referral system for all present providers to increase access to services. Of the previous six events, 40 percent of attendees are referred to service providers and of that 40 percent, 37 percent have been placed in higher-paying jobs and/or housing. And of that 37 percent, 70 percent of those served have identified as part of the BIPOC community, Blucher said.

Collaboration for a Cause started in March 2020 as a pop-up event to provide disaster relief and supplies to anyone in need. Since its start, the event has helped more than 2,000 individuals and families.

“We look to make every event bigger and better,” Blucher said.

The Pierce County Community Engagement Task Force is powered by WorkForce Central with the goal of using innovative community engagement to foster the economic mobility of Pierce County individuals and families.
