Business Solutions Supports Urgent Healthcare Training Need

June 12, 2023

This spring, WorkForce Central’s Business Solutions team was able to support an urgent need by one of our WorkSource Pierce system partners, Arivva, to help organize a Cardiac Monitoring Training program with the goal of filling empty positions with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.

We needed to do this quickly, and the Business Solutions team was determined to make it happen, said Christian Reed, Workforce Development Recruiting Specialist.

Fast forward to June 8, and WorkForce Central and the WorkSource Pierce network proudly celebrated the graduation of 17 students who are currently in the process of interviewing with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.

WorkForce Central, through WorkSource Pierce, provided comprehensive wrap-around support to ensure the program’s success. Business Solutions created promotional and registration materials and helped throughout the process by identifying applicants who needed assistance and helped determine eligibility for other support services.

“We crafted a two-sided flyer that highlighted the training opportunity and featured associated job listings,” Reed said. “This approach was transparent and provided interested students with all the information they needed to make informed decisions.”

The training was advertised through WorkSource Pierce social media channels as well as physical locations throughout the county. System partners were also advised of the new training opportunity to identify ideal candidates coming through our centers. The response to the program was overwhelming, with 75 local job seekers expressing interest within two weeks. Consequently, the training provider had to close registration early due to the high level of demand.

Recognizing the significance of employer engagement, WorkSource Pierce and Arivva proactively connected with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health prior to graduation to ensure the students were well-prepared for panel interviews. They further facilitated participants’ transition from training to employment by providing resume and interview workshops.

“Through mock interviews and direct coaching sessions, we equipped the students with essential skills and shared best practices for crafting resumes and cover letters,” Reed said.

Leveraging the student registration data, the Business Solutions team was also able to identify that 11 out of the 16 graduates qualified for funding through WorkForce Central’s Reskill/Upskill Grant from Pierce County. As a result, they will each receive $2,500 to assist them in their transition from training to employment.

Looking ahead, WorkSource Pierce plans to conduct post-exit interviews with graduating students. These interviews will provide valuable insights into their experiences and help us refine our services for future programs. With a commitment to excellence and a dedication to empowering individuals, WorkSource remains focused on facilitating successful outcomes for all participants.
