Lens of Equity Summit Leaves Lasting Impact on Community

June 26, 2023

The first ever 2023 Lens of Equity Summit was a resounding success. More than 250 people attended the May event at Clover Park Technical College to spend the day starting important conversations around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access. Feedback from attendees was sensational!

“I’m so grateful to have attended the Lens of Equity Summit,” said Aimee Khuu, executive director for Tacoma Community House. “Powerful speakers, fantastic panelists, and thought-provoking workshops. I feel more committed to equity and justice than ever before.”

Organized by the Pierce County Community Engagement Task Force, powered by WorkForce Central, the summit featured keynote speakers, presentations, workshops, and educational resources. It showed how organizations, businesses, and individuals can be action-oriented in implementing equity work in Pierce County. Rather than having a more general or generic discussion, the Lens of Equity Summit focused on specific and actionable steps you can take starting tomorrow to truly implement DEAI work and effect greater change.

“The “Lens of Equity” Summit was absolute,” said keynote speaker Jahmad Canley. “I love attending events where I get so much more than what I give. The atmosphere, the staff, the speakers, the presenters, the food, and the DJ were all amazing!

“We asked the question, ‘Do you really love Justice and Equity?’ The easy answer is yes, but we all have some reflecting to do.”

Attendees are already asking about the next summit and how they can get involved! Thanks to all of our sponsors, presenters, and attendees!
