US Fire Equipment

Hire Pierce County: Next Gen is pairing young adults, ages 16-24, with businesses throughout Pierce County in various paid internship roles. The program provides valuable work experience and training to young adults while also helping businesses meet staffing needs.

US Fire Equipment, the largest fire apparatus (vehicle) repair facility in the Pacific Northwest, joined the program offering three internship positions at its Sumner location. Not only does US Fire Equipment provide service and repair for fire apparatus, but they also represent the leading vendors in the industry, along with building their own line of brush trucks and slip-in units. They also offer just about every piece of small equipment a department would need, including helmets. The internships offered include two mechanic’s helpers and one office assistant.

Mechanic’s Helper


Internship Opportunity:
US Fire Equipment, LLC 

Location: 4200 150th St Ct E, Sumner 

Requirements: Driver’s License and vaccination. Employees must wear masks outside their personal workspace. 

Available spots: 2 

Schedule: 6:00 am to 5:00 pm weekdays, can be customized to fit needs. 

Skills: Basic computer skills, general mechanical aptitude, and desire to learn mechanical skills.  

Description: This intern will assist the mechanics in repairing and/or fabricating all types of fire apparatus. They will have shop cleaning duties and assist with receiving, stocking, and ordering parts. They could also be asked to do occasional parts runs. Because this work is with fire trucks, this person must be detail oriented and care about the quality of the work they perform.

Internship Opportunity:

Location: 4200 150th St Ct E, Sumner 

Requirements: Vaccination. Employees must wear masks outside their personal workspace. 

Available spots: 1 

Schedule: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm weekdays, can be customized to fit needs. 

Skills: Basic Microsoft Office skills, basic math skills, professionalism. Intern will be taught basic QuickBooks. 

Description: This intern will answer multi-phone system and direct calls to the appropriate department. They will file, input and track mechanic’s time sheets into an MS Word document, update spreadsheets, and call fire departments to schedule mechanical services. There will also be other basic office duties that arise. This intern must be comfortable answering the phone and using the paging system to direct calls appropriately. They must be professional when greeting customers, usually fire chiefs and firefighters, and comfortable interacting with all levels of positions.
