Task Force Continues Outreach to Pierce County Business Community

December 1, 2022

In 2022 and into 2023, the Pierce County Community Engagement Task Force is continuing efforts to support community engagement, diversity, equity, access, and inclusion within organizations and the distribution of resources to communities in need.

Collaboration for a Cause finished its ninth event in Tacoma on September 22. With 38 vendors in attendance, we received 434 referrals for employment, education and training, young adult services, health, basic needs, and more. We would like to thank the many volunteers and organizations that came out to serve. Our final event was held on December 1 at Clover Park Technical College’s McGavick Conference Center in Lakewood. Our Lakewood event introduced our new pre-registration form, which also allows those who cannot be there in person to self-refer to connect with resources and services.

We are also excited to announce the Task Force’s Small Business Engagement Group. The new committee, starting in early 2023, is open to all small businesses in Pierce County with a specific emphasis on BIPOC, veteran, and women-owned businesses. Join us for discussions regarding current issues affecting small businesses in Pierce County with local subject matter experts on topics you want to learn and discuss. Other benefits will include speakers on best practices, networking opportunities, and professional development.

Join our table of Small Business Owners to create an inclusive community of thought partnership, business goals, and best practices. Our goal is to assist you with resources and knowledge in growing your organization and achieving more. We can’t wait to see you there!

The Task Force also continued planning for the first annual Lens of Equity Summit, which is taking place in person on May 18, 2023 at Clover Park Technical College’s McGavick Conference Center in Lakewood. This full-day workforce development conference provides tangible tools and information to organizations, businesses, and individuals on how building healthy Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion (DEAI) frameworks within their organization or system can serve the community, increase access, and foster economic growth in Pierce County.

Our successes would not have been possible without the robust support and collaboration from our partners. Thank you for being a part of our monthly activities and helping us grow and continue to bring economic mobility to individuals and families in Pierce County. We look forward to continuing our work through the rest of 2022 and into 2023.
