Upskill/Reskill Fund Supporting De-escalation Training for Humane Society Staff
December 1, 2022
The Humane Society of Tacoma Pierce County is utilizing the Upskill/Reskill Fund to provide staff with valuable de-escalation training. The training will offer staff the tools they need to confidently address a variety of high-stress and difficult situations, according to the Humane Society. Staff will be able to de-escalate customer conflicts and verbal threats to improve the overall safety of the workplace and customer satisfaction.
When applying for the funding, Humane Society staff said they believe the de-escalation training will contribute to a reduction in lost workdays, improve staff retention, reduce complaints, improve staff morale, and provide promotional opportunities.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain key definitions
- Remain more situationally aware in the workplace
- Correctly assess an individual’s perspective
- Activate self-control and self-awareness
- Improve communication skills to de-escalate aggressive behavior
- Respond to behaviors and symptoms
- Build awareness techniques of the non-verbal communication of others
- Build proficiency in the keys to supportive interventions
